Why Go to Amazon, When You Can Visit Cairns!

Visiting a rain forest is a terrific experience, you get to see the incredible variety of nature – all the different plants, birds, reptiles and animals can be seen in their natural habitat.

And you don’t have to go South America to appreciate the rainforest’s beauty – just like there’s the Amazon in South America, there’s the Daintree Rainforest near Cairns, Australia, where you can have a terrific vacation, spending it discovering species you have never seen before.

Daintree National Rainforest is the largest single rainforest in the entire Australian continent, covering over 1,200 square kilometers and was included to the World Heritage List in the year 1988.

The area is accommodated by over 300 mammal species and over 3,000 plant species – 13 of the mammals being indigenous exclusively in the Daintree Rainforest. Many diverse species of birds and reptiles also live there, including the very rare southern cassowary bird and huge crocodiles, which can be seen up close.
Although there’s only a one and a half hour drive to the Daintree Tropical Rainforest from the city of Cairns, because of the limited public transportation it’s advised that you drive up with a car or take one of many tours options that drive into the area.

You can take the Daintree ferry that will get you to the very heart of the tropic rainforest – not far from there is the beautiful Alexandra Range, where the Daintree River flows into the Coral Sea.

There are also plenty of companies that offer the opportunity to go and see crocodiles – one of the regions’ most remarkable creatures – with a cruise. They provide a safe and comfortable way of reaching the habitats of these exciting creatures, giving you an up-close look into the amazing natural life of the Daintree Rainforest.

If you’re a fan of fishing, there are plenty of opportunities to take various fishing tours – Daintree beaches, where the rainforest meets the Coral Sea, are perfect places for fishing.
A must visit for any Daintree Rainforest visitor is the Thorsborne Trail – a 32 kilometers long trail along the coast between Cairns and Townsville is one of the best places to hike and experience the intimate nature of the rainforest.

It’s recommended that you take your time and not rush the walk – a few days might be required to truly appreciate everything that the trail has to offer. You will see the lowland rainforest, beautiful waterfalls, creeks, lagoons, peaceful beaches, mangroves and many other amazing wildlife scenes.

If you love beautiful sights of nature, an incredible variety of wildlife and a general sense of grandness, the Daintree Forest has everything you need – a trip there will not only help you relax and forget your daily troubles, but can serve as a great place to get in touch with yourself and reconnect with your true values.
It’s a place where nature is still flourishing, so for anyone who wants to feel the harmony of natural wilderness, can be sure they’ll have a great time – and won’t have to go to the Amazon to find it!
