Vietnam is one of best up and coming golf
destinations in the world and continues to get better every year. With a great climate, lovely beaches, awesome
scenery, delicious food, welcoming people, tremendous hotels and excellent golf
courses, Vietnam is the perfect place for a golf holiday. With so many choose to from, we have picked
out the top 10 best golf courses
in Vietnam.
11. The Bluffs Ho Ham Strip
– Ho Chi Minh
This Greg Norman
designed course, is a links-style golf course, situated on top of a coastal
plateau. The unique, sandy hill terrain
makes for a very attractive, yet intimidating layout, which is comfortably one
of the best in Vietnam. The course won
the World’s Best New Golf Course Award, at the 2015 World Golf Awards ceremony.
22. Dalat Palace Golf Club –
Dalat
This is the
oldest golf course in Vietnam but remains one of the best. Located in the south-western highlands, the
course is 1,500 metres above sea level and this makes for a cooler environment,
perfect for playing golf. The course has
a great history and King Bao Dai used to play here in the 1920’s.
33. Laguna Lang Co Golf Club
- Danang
This course was
designed by multiple major golf winner Nick Faldo and the distance varies
between 6,900 yards from the championship tees and 5,260 yards from the front
tees, making the course suitable for players of all abilities. The course winds its way between trees, paddy
fields, streams, rock formations and alongside the beach. The majority of the course uses the natural
landscape to form the terrain and has plenty of links-style characteristics.
44. Danang Golf Club - Danang
Having opened in
2010, Danang Golf Club is one of the most popular golf
courses in Danang and was voted as one of the best 15 new courses worldwide
by USA Golf Magazine in 2016. Just 20 minutes away from Hoi An, the course
has won a number of awards since and is a true links-like course, built on the
sandy soil of Danang beach. The course
was designed by Greg Norman and features wide fairways, limited use of water
and no out of bounds areas. The greens
are undulating and accurate approach play is required, to get a low score.
55.
Montgomerie Links -
Danang
Situated nicely
between Da Nang and Hoi An, this course, as the name suggests, was designed by
Colin Montgomerie. The course has won a
number of awards, including Vietnam’s Best Championship Course 2013, by Vietnam
Golf Magazine. The course replicates the
feeling of being on a links course in Scotland or Ireland and this is perhaps
the best compliment you can pay, although the conditions and temperature tend
to be a bit more favourable in Vietnam. Rolling
fairways, thick rough and large greens are the standout features.
66. Vietnam Golf and Country
Club – Ho Chi Minh
This is the home
of two good golf courses, with the best being the East Course. This course was designed by Lee Trevino and
offers wide fairways but plenty of hazards, including over 100 bunkers and
plenty of water, plus the greens are fast and undulating. The East Course can be quite a challenge and
will make even the best golfers think twice, before playing their shot.
77. Van Tri Golf Club -
Hanoi
Located just 30
minutes away from Hanoi city centre, this was north Vietnam’s first private
golf estate. The course is laid out on
mainly flat terrain but is very picturesque, with grass, water, stone, sand and
trees combining to frame each hole nicely.
The condition and shaping of the course is difficult to beat, anywhere
in the north of the country.
88. Chi Lin Star Golf and
Country Club - Hanoi
This 27-hole golf
course, is one of the more recent to open up for play in Vietnam. It hosted the first international golf
tournament in north Vietnam and the course is situated in a lovely valley, with
creeks, lakes and natural water hazards.
Due to the natural lake in the centre of the golf course, water is a
feature on many of the holes and tee shots over water, in addition to islands
greens, combine to make Chi Lin Star a memorable round of golf.
99. Kings’ Island Golf Club
- Hanoi
As the name
suggests, this golf course is located on an island, which can be found in the
middle of Dong Mo lake, close to Ba Vi mountain. There are two, 18-hole golf courses to choose
from here and perhaps the best of the two, is the Mountain Course. Great views of the mountains in the distance and
the surrounding trees, compliments the waterside setting of the course nicely
and it offers a good challenge to players of every standard.
110. Vinpearl Nha Trang Golf
Resort – Nha Trang
The course at
Vinpearl Nha resort is set in a private cove of Nha Trang Bay and is possibly
one of best settings for a golf course, anywhere in the world. The course is laid out across the 800 metre
beach and valley, which provides a number of exciting and testing holes.
