Visit Malabrigo Lighthouse and Stay at La Bien Haus & Resort

We met up Mark, Jane and Jeffrey in Gil Puyat LRT station and had breakfast at Jollibee around 2 am and we left maybe around 3 am and boarded a bus (Jam Liner) bound to Batangas City Grand Terminal (P185.00) and the travel time about 2 hours and then we reached at Batangas City Grand Terminal around 5 am and had a quick breakfast (Breakfast again???? Hahaha sarap kasi ng Lomi Batangas). From Batangas Grand Terminal we rode a jeep going to Don Ramos (P11.00) and then another jeep (P9.00) going to SM City-Batangas and get off at the Lobo Jeepney Terminal. Then, we rode a jeep going to Town of Lobo (P57.00) and then we reached around 9 am and went to Lobo public market to buy some foods and other stuffs. From Lobo public market we rode a tricycle (P120 isang byahe na) to La Bien Resort in Brgy. Malabrigo.

We had quick rest at the resort and went directly to Malabrigo Lighthouse. The lighthouse is just along the road easily accessible from the main town of Lobo which is just approximately seven kilometers away. There’s no hard trek going the place unlike other Spanish era lighthouses in the country.

Malabrigo Lighthouse is said to be inspired by Victorian architecture

Malabrigo Point Lighthouse, also known as Faro de Punta Malabrigo (Parola ng Punta Malabrigo), is a historic lighthouse located in Barangay Malabrigo, Lobo, Batangas, Philippines. Completed and lit in 1896, it is one of the oldest working lighthouses in the Philippines as well as the best preserved lighthouse in the country. It serves as a guide for ships passing through the Verde Island Passage going to either Batangas Bay or Sibuyan Sea. The Malabrigo Point Lighthouse was among the lighthouses constructed by the Spanish colonial authorities in the Philippines from 1846 to 1896 as part of the Plan General de Alumbrado de Maritimo de las Costas del Archipelago de Filipino (Masterplan for the Lighting of the Maritime Coasts of the Philippine Archipelago. (Wikipedia).

Designed by Spanish Engineer Guillermo Brockman, Faro de Punta de Malabrigo was built of masonry in 1891 and completed in 1896 under Jose Garcia who oversaw the construction of the lighthouse. The whole structure is said to be inspired by Victorian architecture with a cylindrical brick tower rising at 56 feet (17.1 meters) equipped with solar-powered halogen lamp that flashes three white light every 15 seconds. The focal plane (height of the lamp above sea level) is at 184 feet (56 meters). It also has a single-storey keeper’s house and a pavilion made of wood and bricks. It was built primarily to guide the ships traversing Tayabas Bay and the eastern end of Verde Island Passage.

We left Malabrigo Lighthouse around 12 noon and had quick lunch and back to the resort. We met the owner and staff and they're very accommodating. We had an air-conditioned room, double bed and extra bed and 1 T&B. (P2,500.00) The resort provide you the griller, they will let you borrow kitchen stuffs like rice cooker, plate, kettle and etc if you don’t have.
